Early Postage and Fees Paid Official Card

Early Postage and Fees Paid Official Card

Here is one of those modern-era official cards that just has to be scarce. The generic 'Postage and Fees Paid' insignia predates the POD Eagle pictorial vignette. The 'Smoky the Bear' pictorial machine cancellation makes up for it in this instance.

The Library of Congress usage may have been a common one, but how many of these have escaped land-fills? The preprinted form appears to be for generic use, with the specific message mimeographed as seen upon the reverse of the card.

The Airmail auxiliary indicates that this card was sent at the six cent rate of the time. It looks as if it was forwarded to a new recipient address by the POD as well.
