Domestic Postal Card Sent Via International Airmail

Domestic Postal Card Sent Via International Airmail

This card is an interesting use of an uprated domestic postal card used overseas via international airmail. This one was sent to Malaysia. The card exhibits an interesting auxiliary 'Air Mail' (arrow) marking which was in use during this period.

The card was revalued on 7/23/74 with a standard postal meter. Interestingly, it's still 2-Cents underpaid for the airmail rate of 18 cents. I can't come up with a rationale for this 16-Cent airmail rate. Perhaps the American Economic Association did not normally send subscription advice overseas, and were ignorant of the proper rate. Instead of contacting the Post Office, they guessed and doubled the face value of the card. The card seems to have made it successfully.
